Submit an application! Please read carefully. If there is missing information on your application, we will not proceed with the review.
After your application is submitted, call your vet to release records for us to obtain a reference. We will verify proof of spay/neuter and that your pet has been kept up to date with a minimum requirement of Rabies and DHPP vaccinations, for any pet you've owned in the last 5 years.
Prepare your home! Puppy/dog proof your house and purchase necessary items like a crate, bed, toys, bowls, collar, leash, etc.
When you receive an email that you are approved to adopt, you will then be ready to set up any meet & greets with you and all current pets/family members within your household. During your meet & greet, a volunteer will will also verify if your home is ready for a new pet.
Sign the contract to officially adopt your new family member and love them furever! Keep in touch and send us updates!
Policies &
Procedures
We strive not only to find great homes, but to match the home with the dog.
An approved application does not guarantee approval for a specific dog. For example, if an applicant has a cat and the dog they applied for is not compatible with cats, we may recommend a different dog that is a better fit. Our priority is to make thoughtful, lifelong matches that set both the adopter and the dog up for success.
Effective July 2026:
The adoption fee is $400, plus a $100 refundable spay/neuter compliance deposit.
The adoption fee includes age-appropriate veterinary care provided while the dog or puppy is in OARWNY's care. If the animal is altered through one of OARWNY's participating veterinarians, the spay/neuter procedure is included. Adopters who choose to use their own licensed veterinarian are responsible for the full cost of the procedure, and the adoption fee remains unchanged.
The $100 compliance deposit will be refunded after OARWNY receives proof that the animal has been spayed or neutered within the required timeframe. Acceptable proof includes a spay/neuter certificate or veterinary invoice identifying the adopted animal. Documentation must be emailed to oarwny@gmail.com to process the refund.
